TOO HUMAN
http://www.toohumanonline.com
Too Human’s music
has a lot of heart. You’ll find threads - influenced
by Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell, Thom Bell, Duke
Ellington, Carole King, Cole Porter and the Gershwins - from
jazz to pop to R&B with a little bit of folk thrown in
for good measure. They cover jazz standards, but with
a fresh interpretation that brings new life to those classic
songs. With vocals, guitar, percussion and upright bass,
they have a jazzy / bluesy feel and Ellen's earthy voice combines
perfectly with Roger's unusual percussion style and stirring
vocals. Sweet harmonies, unusual arrangements and Roger’s
famous mouth trumpet are the musical elements that frame their
performance. But what drives their work and draws the
audience in is their on-stage chemistry. High quality
musicianship, totally in sync with each other, they create
a strong and intimate atmosphere.
You may have heard them lakeside in the Adirondacks, at a river
view pavilion in Vermont, a winery in Virginia,
a museum or a club in NY, the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts in Washington, DC, the Bushnell
|
| Theater for
First Night Hartford, CT, libraries
and arts councils in many states or at a Whole Foods Market event. They
love Whole Foods and have been booking themselves into many
of the locations in Maine, Massachusetts, NC, SC, VA and DC.
(See their tour info on their website - http://www.toohumanonline.com -
for upcoming performances.)
And of course Too Human has several CDs available
at gigs, on their website and as downloads from the internet. There
are two live recordings - Standards Live and Live
on Tour - and two studio recordings, True and From
There To Here. For more info go to their website.
Roger and Ellen are composers as well as songwriters and performers. As
songwriters on staff with publishing giant Warner Chappell,
they wrote songs for an eclectic array of multi-platinum award
winning recording artists including Nancy Wilson, Cher,
Pat Benatar, Teddy Pendergrass, Angela Bofill, Agnetha Foltskog of ABBA and Martha
Davis of the Motels, among others,
and their songs have been heard on TV shows including Fame,
General Hospital and As The World Turns. Their instrumental film work is in a whole other realm - atmospheric,
eclectic, and totally in sync with the vibe of the project. From
orchestral compositions to boppy jazz pieces, quirky little
snippets, moody vignettes, and interesting accordion pieces,
their music becomes an integral part of a film, creating tension
and intensity, sweetness and sensitivity or whatever meets
the needs of the project. Their recent film experience
includes original scores for writer/director Felipe Soares
and original scores for writer/producer Kat Alix-Gadreau and
they have recently created original musical pieces for spoken
word/story telling CDs. Samples of their film music can
be heard at wacbiz.com and
on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FG4mIfd7FQ). |

WESTSIDE ANDY/MEL FORD
BAND
www.westsideandy.com
Andy Linderman and Mel Ford have played together for years.
But because of their “other commitments,” this
is the first time they’ve made it official.
Andy’s “other commitments” include collaborations
with James Cotton, Corky Siegel, Jim Schwall, Luther Allison,
Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Charlie Musselwhite, The Doobie
Brothers, Richie Havens, Muddy Waters, Ben E. King, Tab Benoit,
and The University of Wisconsin 250-piece band (Andy stopped
the show).
Mel began in opening acts for Albert Collins, Freddie King,
and Stevie Ray Vaughn. |
|
 |
He played with Bo Diddley, Sunnyland
Slim, Zora Young, Junior Pettis, Ben Sidran and Paul Black
and the Flip Kings (with Andy). Mel also played the part of
bandleader in Mel Ford and the Fairlanes.
So what is the Westside Andy / Mel Ford band? It’s part
celebration of a great American music. It’s part the
result of all the musicians Mel and Andy have played with.
And it’s all about love. They love this music and they
love to play it for you. -Dan Smith
